Status:
Initial work done in 2015 led to the postponing major work on this project until 2020.

Goal:
Develop and approach to deal with variation between 21st Century and previous Centuries variations in spelling.

Background:
Wayne Schneider made the original attempts to standardize spelling within text used for COFEA by means of a 21st/20th century dictionary.  The process was processor intensive and raised several issues.  Significantly, pre-load normalization raised issues of text authenticity, as well as accuracy, so it was decided to see of Alternate Spellings could be handled on the front end of the interface using something similar to a “did you mean” search recommended.
